Day 4 & 5-Cape Town

Monday & Tuesday we went to a Safari and spent the night. It was very, very nice and there were a lot of couples there and no children. We were the only ones with kids there. All the meals were very nice and not really kid friendly. :-) Monday night we had a 4 course meal and it was very good but it lasted 2 hours. Jared ended up falling asleep in my lap before the main course was even served. The food was very good though. Jacob said he is ok with no more fancy meals because you have to be to quiet and still. :-) Both of the boys had very good table manners the entire time we were there. Monday when we arrived we sat around the pool for a little bit while the boys swam. They said it was very cold water but it didn't stop them. They served us lunch and while we were eating they brought a cheetah by the tables for everyone to see and touch. After lunch we went on a safari ride for about 3 hours. It was very nice and the boys loved it. Jacob felt like he was Indiana Jones riding in the car with our guide. :-) After the safari we had about an hour to rest before dinner. It was at about 7pm so it was dark and they had a fire and candles lit. We felt a little out of place with our family and with all the couples there but the boys did great and most of the food was good. They started with an appetizer and then soup that was carrot and orange. It was a cold soup and no one at our table liked it. :-) Next was an avocado that had prawn inside it and cheese on top and it was grilled. It was very good. Then we had either celery pork or beef        with rice and salad. Both were very good. Dessert was either a cheese plate or and espresso flan. By dessert time Kenny had taken Jared to bed and it was just Jacob and I so we got one of each to try. The cheese plate was not good at all and the flan was not really either but Jacob loved the espresso that was on the plate around it. The first day we were there is was very hot but Tuesday morning it was probably in the 50's and within about 1hour into the 3 hour safari the boys were so cold they were done...but they made it through it and that is when we saw the lions.

It was a 3 hour road trip to the safari and on the way home our driver decided he would take us on a scenic route through the winding mountains. It was very beautiful but not a good choice for the people in the back seat that get car sick. We ended up stopping in a small town because Jacob got sick and he threw up several times. Once we got him cleaned up we decided to stop at a winery in town. We were too early for the tour but Kenny and I did a little tasting and ended up getting about 4 bottles to bring home with us.

Once we got home we took the city bus to a street called Long Street. It has a bunch of shops and restaurants. The boys got some bongo drums...YEAH....and we found a shop that had African shirts...so we got a few of those and then had a stole made for my dad. We also went to a store that had a lot of local vendors in it and got a few things. Once we got back to the Waterfront we went and ate at a place called City Grill. We ended up eating at this place twice because it was so good. We all had a steak and believe it or not the boys ate every piece of theirs. We forgot how much we missed a good steak.

One thing about Cape Town that is so nice is there are no mosquitoes. So that means no bug spray and no medicine. I forgot how nice it was to smell like something other than bug spray. :-)

One thing we learned about Giraffes is they never sleep because their heart is to big.

Male cheetah has the hair sticking up on their back.

They did a cheetah run...where they tied a rag to a cable that was pulled down the road and the cheetah chased it. You wouldn't believe how fast they can run....it was amazing. My pictures weren't the best but you can get the point.

We walked with the Giraffes on Tuesday morning.

The Lions we seen...

Once they started standing up we drove off. All the other animals they would turn off the vehicle but on the Lions they would not turn it off just incase we had to leave quickly.
