I have been shopping over the last few days, surprise surprise and I did find a few good things.
Pepperoni Pizza...Jacobs favorite. Found and have tried and it was really pretty good. Only cost $9.50!!
Mozzarella cheese....cost $20 for the block. I am going to try and freeze some of it. I looked online and it said that it freezes well.
Parmesan cheese...cost $1.50 a sack.
A friend took me shopping with her today to Kero were I had been once and didn't really like but today I found tons of stuff there. I even found my dish washing soap that last time I got about 30 tablets for $30 and I got 40 for $10 this time. She told me while we were shopping that I needed to lower my expectations here. That if it taste all right and doesn't make you sick then it is considered good. I said even if you have to pay $50 for it and she said absolutely yes. :-) I am working on it but I still do not buy some stuff because of the cost. Also, when we went shopping today her driver went in with us and she just told him what she wanted and he put it in the cart for her....I could not believe it. She said you need to learn to use your driver like they are meant to be used. She said if you need something and you don't want to go to the store you send your driver to get it. My neighbor told me that she hardly ever goes shopping anymore because she just sends her driver. That is just so crazy to me. I figure it is their job to take me to the store not do it for me. They tell me that I will get used to it and will be sending them before long.
I seen this at the store the other day and could not believe the price so I had to take a picture and show you. This ice chest is 48 qt I believe and it cost $115.49.
For supper Monday night I made beans and cornbread and I told the maid yesterday she could have some for lunch and so she did. Today when I got home around noon she asked me if she could have some more and I said sure help yourself. Then after lunch she told me we were out of beans and could I make some more for tomorrow because she really liked them. I guess beans and cornbread are a lot cheaper than a ham sandwich here. I will have beans and cornbread for her until she tells me she is tired of eating them. :-) She has been eating ham sandwiches everyday since she started.
The ladies that live in the compound that work for the same company my husband does don't really do anything. I have talked to one of them just a couple of times because she does the schedule for the bus. I kind of expected one of them to show me around when I got here but none of them every have. Ever since I meet my neighbor, whose husband works for a different company, I have been getting invites to everything. I have been going to bible study and from there one of the ladies asked me to go look at fabric with them in town tomorrow so I am doing that. Today I went to the PTA meeting and one of the ladies invited me to Kero with her and I went and then she invited me to Happy Hour at her house at 2. I went for about 20 mins because I had to go to the school for Jacob's after school swimming and when I got home I had an email from one of the lady's at the Happy Hour inviting me to play Mahjong on Thursday's. Not sure I will do that though. I guess I was asking for things to do and it seems like I am slowly getting pulled in. The lady I went to Kero with today said it is easy to start doing things but don't get in to deep. I think I will stick with exercising, PTA and room mom at school. There is also an AWAA (Americas woman Association in Angola) club that everyone says it really nice to join and the TICA (The International Community of Angola). Most of the ladies say they only attend a few of those meetings but they always have a lot of sales and have some good things at the sales. They both only meet once a month.
The PTA meeting today was huge. I am used to maybe 10 people showing up at the meetings and today there were probably about 40 or more. They have a really big International festival at the school in November were each country that is represented at the school has a booth set up and gives things away and has food samples from their country. Then they have a stage where the kids from the different countries preform something that represents their country. We have decided we will have the kids from the US do some kind of line dance or something. It should be a lot of fun.
I told you about the people sweeping dirt and the guys picking up the sacks of it. Today I seen it again so I took a picture of them. I asked my driver why they don't just dump the sand back on the ground instead of wasting all the plastic and man hours to pick it up and he said because they have to take it to the trash. I don't know why they don't just make the whole side of the road sidewalk because they have to start back over tomorrow.
Nelson our jardiniere, Gardener, got some more coco's down from the tree for us the other day after he learned the boys liked eating them. I tried to get a better picture of him but this is as good as i could get for now.
Boys and the shipment: So when we were getting our shipment packed up in the states the boys seen a couple of their birthday presents....scooters. When our shipment arrived here, again they seen the scooter. Really only Jacob seen his and Jared didn't know he was getting one. So we went ahead and let them have them last weekend and they loved them.
Ok I guess that's it for getting caught up.
