Jacob's student led conference

Monday the boys were out of school for parent conferences. The last conference was with the parents and teacher. This conference was with the student and parents. Each student prepared a plan and then they walked the parents through their plan. For Jacob this included showing us his portfolio, his UOI(Unit of Inquiry) folder, his math folder, and his writing folder. He also showed us around his classroom, his Portuguese class, art class, music class, computer class, and his PE class. It ended up lasting about 1 hour 15 minutes. He was so excited to show us around all his rooms and everything he has done. I am so proud of how far Jacob has came since we moved here. Kenny and I were a little worried at the first of the school year with the style of teaching and the fact that Jacob didn't have much homework. However, we have seen Jacob come a long way since the beginning of school with his attitude about school and homework and trying new things. This move has really helped him be able to adapt to any situation, which is a trait I hope he will have forever. In the beginning he "hated" us for bringing him here. He did not want to move here, he was not going to make friends here or like the school. The first two weeks he cried every morning not wanting to go to school or leave me. Now he says he wishes he could bring LIS to Marlow. He loves Mr. Reid and has made so many friends here. Mr. Reid sent me an email the other day about how well Jacob is doing and it was really nice to hear.

I’m really happy that Jacob has settled in here so well. I was thinking about that the other day, how he seems very at ease and comfortable with these other kids he just met this year. I enjoy having him in the class a lot too. If you’re going to spend all day with kids they should at least be entertaining.

Not sure about the entertaining part, but I can only image with Jacob. :-) The picture below might explain it though.
The kids had a unit on keeping healthy and they studied the digestion system. Only my child would actually draw the waste. :-)

This is Jacob's children's book he is making. The title is "The Joke Book of Laughter".

Here is his comic story "The Plane Crash". The sticky notes on the story are questions his classmates left him.

Kenny and I found this chart funny. Can you guess whose name is on the highest paper? Jacob said he is always the tallest and funnest kid in his class.

This is a map they have in their room showing were all the kids are from.

Jacobs says he is going to be an engineer or architect. In computer class he loves playing with Google Sketcher. He is able to draw these pictures with buildings and different structures.

Here is another one he drew.

This is a poster he put together about himself.

These are all the pictures of their alligator, Chompy, when he visits every ones house.

These are some things he made in art class.

This is using pastels.

Here is another of his art pieces.

Here is his art folder he made.

Here he is showing us his computer lab.
