Benfica with Jacob's class

Wednesday I went with Jacob's class to Benfica Market for a field trip. They are studying Markets at school now so what better way then to go to a market. They each brought 1000Kwz($10.00) and they had to try and bargain and buy as much as they could. They also had a form with questions on it like: How much did the item cost? What is it made out of? Where was it made? How much did it cost the vendor to make it? How much profit did he make? How many does the vendor sale each day? How much money does the vendor make each day? The kids were very good at bargaining and getting what they wanted. Jacob really wanted a statue of a hunter but they wanted 2500 Kwanzas for it and he could only spend 1000 Kwz. He chose to keep looking and ended up getting a bracelet for 300Kwz. He decided he still really wanted the statue so he went back and tried negotiating. He found someone with a smaller version of what he wanted and so he asked what they wanted for it and they said 1700Kwz. Remember he only had 700Kwz left....he asked the vendor if he would take 100Kwz for it and the guy said no 1700Kwz. Jacob ended up getting the guy to take 700Kwz for the statue and then the guy threw in a sword for the statue. I told Jacob the guy must have felt sorry for him or something. :-) I know who I am taking with me next time I go shopping at the market.

Jacob and Gonzalo on the bus. They took a picture of themselves.

Trying to make some deals.

Jacob loved this boat but cost to much for him to buy.

All I heard after they seen the monkeys was, "Mom please let me buy a monkey".

Jacob's purchases.

Back at school showing off what they bought.
