Our friends from Egypt went to the US for the holidays. They emailed and asked if we needed anything from Wal-Mart and joking I said a Dr. Pepper. A few days later when they arrived in Luanda I went by there house to pick up some stuff she picked up for me and they had Dr. Pepper. I could not believe they brought this back with them. After the boys got one and I let the Amer's taste it I have almost enough to last me until June if I only have one per week. :) The funny part of this story is that they had no idea what Dr. Pepper was. Shimo thought maybe it was a spice or something. They looked it up online and found a BBQ sauce and a soda. When they went to Wal-Mart they asked an associate what Dr. Pepper was and they pointed them in the right direction. I didn't even think about them not knowing what it was but I really didn't even expect them to bring it back with them.

After about 5 days and 8 stores I found some Heinz Ketchup again. Costing me almost $6 a bottle I got 10 bottles. The boys kept telling me to buy it all but I did leave about 4 bottles for the next expat wife. After my hunt and paying $60 for ketchup Katie went to the store yesterday and said they had Heinz for only $3.00....figures!

On a positive note we are getting a KFC. I hardly ever eat there in the US but it is nice to see in Luanda. It looks like KFC in the states, I just hope it taste like KFC in the states. If it taste anything like the states this will become a regular eating place for us. Now I just have to learn how to order in Portuguese.

  1. Chris says KFC is popular in Malaysia as well. Weird since its not all that popular here. :) I'm sure after a few months in Luanda I'll be craving it! Getting excited to meeting everyone!
